Synthetic Opioids as a Weapon of Opportunity

Training description

Recent drug trends have made synthetic opioids readily available by internet purchase and illicit production.  Fentanyl analogs, such a Carfentnail and Ohmfentanil, are proving to be highly toxic by inhalation and ingestion.  This results in these materials being used as Pharmaceutical Base Agents (PBA) by terrorist organizations and criminals.  The size and scope of a PBA attack can range from the covert targeting of single individual to dispersal devices resulting in mass casualties.

Training Module: This training module will prepare students to understand the technical feasibly of synthetic opioids being used as a weapon, potential impact including contamination and casualties, and response considerations.
This training module is intended for students from multiple response disciplines, including law enforcement, fire, EMS, hazmat, and emer-gency management.  Students will learn to recognize the signs of a covert and overt PBA attack. The training module will cover immediate personal protective actions, victim rescue, emergency decon, patient treatment, and utilizing/notifying appropriate resources.

This module will include a mix of classroom presentation, practical lanes training, and facilitated discussions.
